Problem:
Tramp iron such as bolts, knife blades and caps in crushed sugar cane stalks or bagasse limited its use as fuel because the metal contamination would damage boiler tubes.
Solution:
Both Oahu Sugar and the Kohala Sugar Company installed Eriez
Suspended Electromagnets to protect their boiler plants. As much as 40 pounds of tramp iron was removed in each eight-hour shift. Downtime for maintenance was greatly reduced.
