Problem:
How to protect expensive papermaking equipment from unwanted pieces of iron contaminants that entered the plant with incoming half-inch (13 mm) hardwood chips.
Solution:
The Tissue Products Division of the Georgia-Pacific plant in Plattsburg, NY, USA installed an Eriez
Suspended Premanent Magnetic Separator on its infeed conveyor. The 8-inch (203 mm) burden depth didn't faze the separator and the tramp iron was removed before it could reach the digesters.
The Sonoco Products Company, of Hartsville, SC installed a
Permanent Magnetic Head Pulley on its infeed conveyor to solve a similar problem.
